About us

Operating is the SaaS tool to run an agency business we wished we had when co-founding and running consultancies.

We’re a team of four former consultants who believe we can significantly improve how consulting companies and agencies are run. We’ve been there at Futurice, Reaktor, and Columbia Road.

The world of professional services is full of inefficiencies that limit what ambitious and brilliant people can do. We help companies put the best people into the right projects and focus on what matters: delivering high value client work. We have customers on 3+ continents, and we're now investing more in our growth.

Our mission

To be honest, we don’t think running an agency is all that complicated. We know there’s a better way than what existing tools provide.

In addition to the first use case we’ve solved –staffing & resource allocation –we want to enable our customers to run all of the core business processes of an agency on our platform. Manage the project portfolio, forecast revenue & profitability, track hours, create invoices, and lead the company with data, all with a great experience.

There are plenty of old-school enterprise tools we compete against, and the way to win in this market is to combine reliable performance with a delightful and opinionated UX that helps consulting companies adopt the best practices to fuel their growth.

Needless to say, the front-end development and UX design effort is crucial. That’s why we’re looking for more people.

The job

We want you to join our team as a frontend developer, and over time, take an increasing responsibility of our approach to frontend development. You will be the third developer in the team, so while frontend development will be your focus, you will get to work across the stack and will always have someone to support you.

Our current tech stack is straightforward and was chosen to minimize technical complexity and operational overhead:

Typescript codebase with React and Tailwind on the frontend and Node.js on the backend
Single large, modular monolithic application
Postgres

Previously, our team has built software for Wolt, Alko, SAS, FIBA, and many more. We believe that tight teams of smart and ambitious people who share a common vision, learn from each other, give and receive direct feedback, and have fun together build the best software products. Planning just enough, validating our ideas with users, and iteration is important. Agile ceremonies, strict project plans, and all that are not.

The ideal candidate is someone who already has experience in frontend development, and is looking for the next step in their career. If everything goes well, you will be the technical lead for a part of Operating in a few years. It could be our design system, our time tracking features, or something completely different. You don’t need to be there yet, but we expect that you have the potential to grow.

We expect from you

High output software development, especially with front-end work
Your own point of view, based on your 2+ years of experience
Preferably: user interface design, especially the visual side of things, but don’t be afraid to apply if this isn’t you.
Everyone in the team works at Maria01 in Kamppi –on-site 3-5 days per week

Process

In-depth interview –1–2 hours face-to-face, working together, going deeper into the problem-solving and design
References –we call two people who have worked with you in the past
